32 year old Patriots Defensive Tackle Vince Wilfork is coming off a torn Achilles suffered earlier in the season. Wilfork is projected to make $7.5 million next season, and the Patriots have approached him about altering his contract. Doing so would help lessen the burden of an $11.6 million salary cap hit. If agreements cannot be made, do you believe that the Patriots would consider cutting him?

  1. Wilfork has been a player for the Patriots for 10 years, I'm sure he has a connection or friendship that will prevent him getting cut. It would not only be a loss for the team, but for the fans too. They might consider cutting him but he is probably not their #1 choice if they have to deal with business.

  2. As sad as it is, as Wilfork has been the center if the Pats D over the recent past, I think the team would have to consider releasing him. A nose tackle his age, as big as he is, would be tough to play past his mid 30s. That's only a couple more years. The team learned to adjust with out him, since he was out all year. If he can't get a new contract, I don't know if he's worth the money.

  3. I do not think the Patriots should cut Vince Wilfork. Vince has been a Patriot for ten years, and is loved by the fans. He means so much to New England, and has been their best defensive player. He is the best run stopper for the patriots, and can put pressure on the quarterback. The Patriots defense would be deeply hurt if he was to be released.

  4. I agree with Matt Bukowski. Even though Vince was once the best defensive tackle in the NFL, and is an all-time Patriots great for sure, he's older now. Coming off a severe achilles tear, a missed season, and being 32, Vince's production could see a great decrease. The Pats would love to have him back for his play, his leadership, and the connection they have formed over the past ten years. However if they can not come to a new agreement, Vince's time with the Pats may be over.

  5. I think Wilfork being a veteran of the Patriots team will not be cut or let go. After the Hernandez scandal I don't think the Patriots can afford loosing another key player like Wilfork. His contract might not be as high as the past season but as he is getting old he is worth less than the past seasons. The team would be hurt significantly with losing a back bone to this team.

  7. Vince Wilfork has had a major role in the Patriots defense. He was a huge disruption to both the run and pass game of any team until his injury. The Patriots are probably scared of how well he will be able to play after coming back from his injury. If they can't come to an agreement, I wouldn't be surprised if the Patriots were to get rid of him. All the New England fans would probably flip out, but that hasn't stopped the Patriots before...*cough* Welker *cough*...

  8. I have been listening to 98.5 debate this topic for days. While they agree he should be cut, I do not. Now, do I think the Patriots will hesitate cutting him if he refuses? Absolutely not. My hope is that he does restructure. If he chooses not to, I hope that they see in him what many others see - the glue that holds the defense together. While most players who face injury do so from the luxury of their homes or private boxes at the games, Wilfork spent his on the sidelines. He was always a part of the action. He was always supporting his team and showing his dedication to his teammates. Restructure.. or resign...please do not remove.
